In July 2011, North Carolina banned the dumping of electronic devices, such as televisions and computers, in state landfills. Now, beginning July 1, 2015, Wilmington, North Carolina, will be offering its residents curbside pickup.
The City of Wilmington chose to partner with Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) to shred electronics to sizes no bigger than a thumbnail. ERI will ensure all hazardous materials are removed and disposed of safely, as well as remove copper from power cords and lead from glass before recycling, among other things.
